Summary

After watching the World Cup on television, a group of Thai boys is inspired to form their own team。 But on the island of Koh Panyee, in a village built on stilts, there is no open space。 The boys can play only twice a month on a sandbar when the tide is low enough。 Everything changes when the teens join together to build their very own floating soccer field。

This inspiring true story by debut author Scott Riley is gorgeously illustrated by Nguyen Quang and Kim Lien。 Perfect for fans of stories about sports, beating seemingly impossible odds, and places and cultures not often shown in picture books。

I love this unique story that is based on a true story。 This story is about Thai boys making it diverse。 I never see a lot of children's books with this ethnicity so I thought that was cool。 All sport-loving children will love this book for sure! I loved this story and I think this could be a great way to introduce some STEM concepts of engineering in a unique way that connects to students' love of sports。 I also thought the backmatter, including pronunciation guides for some of the Thai words & names was an excellent addition。 I loved this story and I think this could be a great way to introduce some STEM concepts of engineering in a unique way that connects to students' love of sports。 I also thought the backmatter, including pronunciation guides for some of the Thai words & names was an excellent addition。 。。。more

I enjoyed learning about soccer played on a sandbar, then, board by board, on a floating soccer field by a group of innovative boys。 The bold, lively art captures the up and down emotions, bringing us into the game and these moments in their lives。An uplifting book that will have you rooting for Prasit and his friends。I thank Millbrook Press for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review。

We received an electronic ARC from NetGalley。Read and reviewed by seven-year-old Amy。The Floating Field is an inspirational tale of Prasit。 Prasit and his friends liked to play soccer。 But there wasn’t any soccer field on the island they lived in。 So the group of boys built their own soccer field。 It was hard work, but it was worth it。 I found it amazing how just a group of boys could actually build a soccer field, that too, in the water。I loved the detailed illustrations and liked to see the fl We received an electronic ARC from NetGalley。Read and reviewed by seven-year-old Amy。The Floating Field is an inspirational tale of Prasit。 Prasit and his friends liked to play soccer。 But there wasn’t any soccer field on the island they lived in。 So the group of boys built their own soccer field。 It was hard work, but it was worth it。 I found it amazing how just a group of boys could actually build a soccer field, that too, in the water。I loved the detailed illustrations and liked to see the floating soccer field too。 。。。more

I received an electronic ARC from Lerner Publishing Group through NetGalley。Riley share the story of this group of boys who built their own floating soccer field so they did not have to wait until low tide to play。 They gather scraps of wood, styrofoam and other materials so they can play any time。 The story takes readers through their first tournament with real uniforms and cleats。 Terrific message to persevere and believe in yourselves。

This a great book。 The illustrations and the story are all well done。 The story of some young boys overcoming obstacles to play the sport they love。 I live in the Midwest and around here kids don't know about tides so I thought it did a nice job of explaining what a tide is。 The end where they showed the real floating field and told a little more about the team just added to it。 I am for sure adding this to my library。 This a great book。 The illustrations and the story are all well done。 The story of some young boys overcoming obstacles to play the sport they love。 I live in the Midwest and around here kids don't know about tides so I thought it did a nice job of explaining what a tide is。 The end where they showed the real floating field and told a little more about the team just added to it。 I am for sure adding this to my library。 。。。more
